Blacksburg - Bed and Breakfast

Whether you are visiting student at Virginia Tech, touring the campus with your child, or simply enjoying the town, Blacksburg, Virginia offers a number of pleasant Bed and Breakfasts for the your enjoyment.

Driving down a gravel road through beautiful green pastures, you arrive at the Maison Beliveau Bed & Breakfast, a “French Country” inn, with a crisp, white exterior and comfortable wrap-around porches. Maison Beliveau is nestled amongst hills, trees, and fields of lavender. Inside, the relatively new inn is impeccable, as is the service. The innkeepers enjoy getting to know their guests during each evening’s social hour in the TV room with fieldstone fireplace. Following this, in the dining room, guests are treated to a French country-style dinner. Starting with bread and salad, the dinner progresses through a French entrée, such as coq-au-vin, and concludes with dessert. Each morning, a three-course gourmet breakfast is served; the menu commonly includes fresh fruit, homemade pastries and breads, quiche or grilled sausage croissant, and crepes served a variety of ways. Completing the ever-attentive service at Maison Beliveau is a hospitality station, available around the clock for a hungry or thirsty guest.

Each of the five guestrooms has a private bathroom and strikes a nice balance between an impersonal hotel and a too-personal home. Each room looks and feels more like a comfortable spa; paint, furniture and decorations are new, yet are traditional rather than modern in style. The Chocolat room has a dark wood four-poster queen bed and a gold and white décor. This room also has a private fireplace and comfortable bathroom with a air-jet soaking bathtub. The Fleur de Lis room is light and open, with a white, king-size bed, pale peach walls, fireplace, air-jet soaking bathtub, and a private deck that overlooks the property’s gazebo and pond. The Tranquillite room has a private bathroom with large shower, queen bed, and fireplace. The Whimsical Room is true to its name in turquoise and other bright colors, yet it does not feel childish in the least. The room has a queen bed, air-jet soaking tub, separate shower, fireplace, and a private deck. The Provence room feels like a slight departure from the calm sophistication of the other four rooms, with a teal, lime green and yellow décor, white queen-size and twin beds, and a private bath with claw-footed tub.

The Maison Beliveau has hosted many beautiful outdoor weddings and birthday parties under their gazebo, and has a separate building for corporate retreats. This conference building is as attractive and relaxing as their main house. Maison Beliveau can even provide catering and drinks service for your large group. Amongst meetings or relaxation, guests at Maison Beliveau can hike the local trails among the inn’s 165 acres, amble through the lavender fields, or check out the town of Blacksburg.

For twenty years, Blacksburg was also home to L’Arche Bed and Breakfast, although it closed in 2007 so that the innkeeper could enjoy retirement. An alternative, excellent choice is to drive about ten minutes outside of Blacksburg, to neighboring town Christiansburg. Here, the traveler will enjoy The Oaks Victorian Inn, a large Victorian style home, painted a light cream color, with a wrap-around porch, a three-story turret, and lovely landscaping.

The entire inn, including its seven guest rooms, is furnished with antiques, and is comfortable and traditional. The inn respects its history, built in 1889. Guest rooms are all English Victorian in style but tastefully so; everything is upscale and done with class. For a special retreat, the Garden Cottage includes a gazebo, sitting room, loft, kitchenette, outdoor hot tub, and private bathroom. A special room inside the house is the Lady Melodies’ Turret, located high on the home’s third floor. This room has a king-sized canopy bed, light blue walls, skylight, ceiling fan, gas fireplace, and large bathroom with a shower. Lady Melodies’ Turret has a fabulous view over the property.

The innkeepers at The Oaks Victorian Inn provide guests with gourmet, three-course breakfasts and are happy to accommodate special diets upon advance notification. For the comfort of the guests, the inn also has wireless internet, a well-stocked library, complimentary beverages in each room’s refrigerator, bathrobes, upscale linens and down comforters, TVs and DVD players, and more.

Blacksburg visitors might enjoy shopping in the town’s great antique stores and boutiques, hiking the Appalachian Trail, fishing, and the variety of excellent restaurants in the area.
