Welcome to the Northern Virginia/DC Area

The Virginia Tourist Guide is the most comprehensive travel and tourism information guide for Northern Virginia/DC Area.

Northern Virginia/DC Area consists of Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun, and Prince William counties and the independent cities of Alexandria, Falls Church, Fairfax, Manassas, and Manassas Park. It is part of the Baltimore-Washington Metropolitan Area, the fourth-largest metropolitan area in the United States. Northern Virginia is the wealthiest and most diverse region of Virginia. Located next to Washington DC, Northern Virginia is the perfect location to launch an adventure.

Even though Northern Virginia is next door to our nation's capital — Washington, D.C. — it has kept its own character reminiscent of colonial times, rambling plantations, equestrian farms and cobblestoned streets leading to quaint taverns, chic shops and historical treasures.

This region of Virginia has been instrumental to America’s history; Virginia’s past is the beginning of the nation’s history and heritage. From the first permanent English settlement of Jamestown in 1607 through the Revolutionary War and the Civil War, Virginia was where the nation originated, where it prospered and where many of our nation’s conflicts were resolved. Sites have been preserved, artifacts collected and research continues. Preservation of history and Virginia are synonymous. From the banks of the Potomac River to the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Northern Virginia abounds with wide variety of activities and history for every family member, including but not limited to Golfing on championship golf courses that overlook Civil War battlefields, visiting wineries, or cruising the Potomac River from Old Town Alexandria to George Washington’s Mount Vernon Estate.

From Aerospace to Zoology, Virginia presents hands-on exhibits, interactive learning stations and knowledgeable reenactors. Some of the most popular destinations include Mount Vernon Estate & Gardens, The Lyceum, Alexandria Archaeology Museum, Stabler-Leadbeater Apothecary Museum, Arlington National Cemetery, the National Air and Space Museum's Udvar-Hazy Center, Women in Military Service For America Memorial, Historic Town of Occoquan (quickly becoming famous for art and antiques), Potomac Mills Value Outlet Mall, Fashion Centre at Pentagon City, Claude Moore Colonial Farm, Civil War Life - The Soldier's Museum in Spotsylvania, George Mason's Gunston Hall Plantation in Mason Neck, Manassas National Battlefield Park, and last but not least, The Pentagon.

Virginia loves events! Around every bend, visitors will find something going on. It might be a huge street festival honoring a particular holiday, season or historic event. It might be a celebration for a particular food, harvest crop or beverage. But one thing’s for sure, you’ll certainly feel at home and part of the action. While in Northern Virginia you'll probably become aware of why the USA is such a wonderful place to live. Its diversity of geography, people and experiences will make your visit truly memorable, if not life changing!

If you are traveling to Northern Virginia/ DC Area, there are many attractions. The Virginia Tourists Guide can help you when planning your trip.
