You are in Nascar neighborhood with Martinsville and Richmond. Martinsville is slightly more than 1/2 mile. It is the shortest track on the Nascar Nextel Cup circuit but, it is one of the biggest when it comes to action. It has 800 foot straights, turns banked at only 12 degrees and has been called "two drag strips with a turn around n each end".This This track offers some of the wildest racing of the tour. Richmond International Raceways had it first race in 1953. The track has undergone three name changes, five configuration changes and one surface chance from dirt to asphalt. Lights were added in 1991. Richmond's unique 3/4 mile layout produces tremendous side by side racing with higher speeds.
